Hours after watching Jodhaa -Akbar, the song “Azeem-o Shaan Shansha will light the screen with lilting melody and breath taking picturization. Placed at a critical twist of the film, it is a spectrum of colors captured beautifully by cinematographer Kiran and excellently choreographed.
However, it can be a termed as a good entertainer and not as a masterpiece which was previously tagged to the film before its release.
Ashutosh Gowariker brings a glimpse of Mughal History preceding the story. But, the audience seems to be lost in the pack of names and details trusted upon which are not so important in the story. The sizes of names get larger and larger as the characters increase.
But then, it’s historical movie so certain rules have to be followed which cannot be evaded or cut short. The script of the first half was unnecessarily dragged and the editing could have been little bit rich and crisp, the film could have been much more enjoyable and would have reached the success peak in the first week.
Story
Our man Jalaluddin Mohammad (Hrithik Roshan) is the Shahenshah-e –Hindhusthan. A man of principles, he transforms from being a hard ruler to a loved emperor, who cares for the common man, and is fair in its impeccable judgments. As he wins over one nemesis after another, his fame and glory grows and spreads throughout the world and earns him the epithet “Akbar”.
Akbar’s wits and will and also his muscle power make him conquer the world. However, the real test lies in winning over a heart of Princess Jodhaa Bhai, daughter of King Barmal of Amer. In spite of agreeing to marry Akbar, Jodhaa refuses to accept the Mughal emperor as her husband. The marriage is a political arrangement between the king of Amer and Akbar., which will ensure a peaceful environment in the kingdom. How and why, is of course, past and forgotten when the marriage takes place.
The story has enough ingredients that make a political drama, and could have been set against any backdrop. The Mughal era, brings alone with it the chance to be opulent, and the same time, intriguing. Gowariker exploits this setting to the fullest, with well mounted war sequences, lavish sets and garnishes it with sequences that have technical standards, not seen before in Hindi cinema. There is a lot more to be narrated, but which cannot be expressed and should be watched on the silver screen.
Performances
Hrithik Roshan looks every inch as a royal emperor he is meant to be. His face and his costumes with perfect body are perfectly captured in long g and close up shots which came out superbly. Everything about his persona, from body language to speech or even just the way he looks at his subjects, translate into, performance, which will win the actor a number of accolades.
Aishwarya to matches Roshan, and carries off the queen’s role with full perfection and the grace with which she carries on the character is perfect.
All the other actors play their roles with perfections, though given short roles; give their best to the film.
In fact, the film has touches of brilliance which only Ashu can bring them out. The maker, as in his earlier movies, manages to induce a patriotic sync in the proceedings, which elevate the drama. The romantic scenes are handled well
In the final conclusion, Jodhaa Akbar is an honest with good performances, well mounted sequences and great and situational music.
This film has much to be said and seen. All have done a hard work to bring out the characters in liveliness.
If at all, this movie is on the weekend list of you people, then buy 2 not 1 packet of pop-corns and two cans of soft drinks and sit patiently and enjoy. But one point is for sure that the 3 and half hours of movie will complete with satisfaction of full entertainment and value for your money.
